Windows

Yesterday we (including Grandma!) drove through dark and fog and rain to our usual getaway spot in Depoe Bay.

We stopped in Lincoln City at a fast food joint with a play zone. The kids liked it, but Elizabeth was somewhat scared by the play structure. She's scared of a lot of things these days, so at first I just rolled my eyes. But after a few minutes, I understood: it was dimly lit (spooky! ) and my kids were the only ones in there at suppertime (eerie!).

The forecast called for rain and overcast the whole weekend, but we woke to a beautiful morning. The only problem? The children were so excited to be here that they were scampering about like raccoons late into the night, and then this morning they woke before dawn.

Suzanne's Hand

We do a lot of drawing. Elizabeth is really good and getting better. I'm okay, but haven't improved since middle school. Until recently, Suzanne could only scribble - one of her favorite subjects was "rushing river." Then some number of weeks ago a switch seems to have been thrown, and she started to draw passable figures.

She also knows how to hold a pen correctly, without anyone having taught her - something Elizabeth still doesn't do, and resists learning.

Go Suzanne!

Last Gasp of Summer

Sunset the first night.   It's been a good summer, but certainly more constrained than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic...
